Can you spray over hammerite

I had assumed As Hammerite recoating time is 15 mins. And Halfords Clear Laquer acrylic I guess says recoat after 15 mins it would be OK to wait 15 mins after the final Hammerite coat and then start the clear-coats. Just read this on the Halfords can, and it says it is essential to wait a minimum of 24 hours before applying the laquer. The trial colour is fine. Do you think this 24 hour wait time is purely so you can rub it down.? Has anyone, sprayed Halfords clear coat ontop of Hammerite say with an hours wait i.

My concern being, could it stop the Hammerite curing properly etc. Or react? If ot leadt 24 hours. As you can imagine from the pic. To put the wheel on means removing all the masking And as its windy crap will blow all over the calliper etc.

If it was OK to spray the laquer on now. Then I could take all that stuff off at Last edited: May 22, What with the warm weather and spraying.. Instructions on lacquer tin can. Oh Dear they mean it. First coat of laquer went on 1hr 30 mins after Hammerite's last coat.

For smooth metal surfaces, lightly abrade for maximum adhesion. To properly prepare new metal surfaces, use mineral spirits to remove grease and apply a rust-inhibitive primer before painting. For painted surfaces that are in sound condition, remove dust with a clean, dry cloth, de-gloss the surface with light sanding, and wipe with mineral spirits to ensure good adhesion.

Hammerite Direct to Rust Metal Paint is specially formulated to perform as a primer, With DUALTECH it provides two-way protection by repelling water it limits surface damage, and by stopping rust forming underneath with its anti-corrosion formulation it, keeps the metal stronger for longer. Does Hammerite need a primer for non-ferrous metal? Direct To Rust: In order to use this on non-ferrous non-rusting metal you must first apply one coat of Hammerite Special Metals Primer.

About Hammerite Unlike conventional paints, Hammerite can be applied directly onto metal without using a primer and undercoat first. They don't require the use of any primer or undercoat. This saves you both time and money. Also, these paints usually produce such a good finish. Finally, Hammerite paints offer protection for up to 8 years, proving themselves to be durable and long-lasting.

This is a subtle satin smooth finish which provides a low sheen alternative to Hammerite Smooth Finish. As is to be expected from Hammerite , this is a durable, corrosion resistant decorative coating for ferrous and non-ferrous metals, certain plastics and wood. Finish Satin Repaintable after 4 hours. You will be using acrylic paint which works best on metal , so you want to choose an oil-based primer that is compatible with acrylic paint.

Look for primer products that are made specifically for metal , as well, since these will best adhere to the surface. Cover the surface beneath the metal object with thick newspaper or a dust sheet to catch any spills or drips. Stir the paint thoroughly before use , and apply with a good quality brush. It would be better to take the Hammerite off by whatever means and paint but you need to get rid of all the Hammerite. You can post now and register later. Its It's been on for god knows how many years the old tin I found was very rusty on the outside. I may try a bit once flatted a bit see what happens. But it looks like I'm gonna have to strip and get the right arm too work. Oh er Next question what do I use to get it off? I have a heat gun dunno if that will be effective at heating up and then scraping?

Just paint over it with Smoothrite
